How do I book my session?
The best way to contact me is by sending me a message via the contact page. It’s best to book a few weeks in advance, especially if you would like a weekend session, as these spots fill up really fast. Let me know the ages of your children, your preferences for location, and any special ideas you have for your portrait session. If you’re interested in a maternity session, around 34 weeks is ideal. Please note maternity sessions are only available in conjunction with a newborn or baby session. Newborn sessions are best booked whilst you are still pregnant; we will pencil in a date a week or two after your EDD. Once we’ve settled on a date, payment of the session fee will finalise the booking.
Whereabouts should we have our photoshoot?
Maternity sessions are held on location outdoors, or in your home. Newborn sessions are held in your home. Photo sessions with babies and bigger kids can be held at your home also, or outdoors. I can suggest a number of spots around Melbourne which make wonderful backdrops, such as garden settings and locations with interesting architecture. I live in the eastern suburbs, but I’m happy to travel to all areas of Melbourne for photo sessions.
What should we wear for our session?
I will provide a comprehensive session information pack including advice about what to wear, once your session is booked.
What age is ideal for baby photography?
For newborn photographs, your baby can be a few days or a few weeks old – it’s up to you and when you are feeling ready. Babies are generally sleepier in the first week though, so if you would especially like some asleep shots, it’s better to have the session in that first week. After the newborn stage, I recommend waiting until your baby is sitting up, usually from around six months.
I am concerned my house won’t be suitable for an in-home session – how can I make it photogenic?
No need to worry if your house is a bit cluttered or not exactly Home Beautiful material! I shoot mainly close-up portraits so the surroundings are not the primary focus (unless you’d like to incorporate some of the nursery in your newborn session). All the indoor photos in my portfolio were taken in ordinary, everyday homes so please don’t stress. :-)
Can I purchase the digital files from our session?
Absolutely! The high-res files on USB is one of our most popular products. You can purchase the USB on its own ($400) or in combination with professional prints, albums or art pieces for your wall. The USB will contain the full set of images from your gallery, in high resolution format ready for printing.
How long does a session take?
A baby or family photography session generally takes around one hour. Newborn sessions in your home can sometimes take up to 4 hours, to allow plenty of time for feeding and settling of your baby.
How many images would we typically receive from a session?
You will receive a minimum of 60 images, although it is often more than that, especially if there is more than one child to photograph. A minimum of 30 images are provided for maternity sessions. All images are individually retouched to remove blemishes and other small imperfections, and carefully adjusted for consistency in exposure, colour and contrast.
How long after the session do we get to see our images?
Your private online proof gallery will be ready within three weeks of your session.
What if my child is unwell on the day?
No problem. It’s always better to reschedule if your child is not their usual cheery self!
Do you offer gift certificates?
Most certainly! The voucher can be made out for any amount or for a specified product/package, and is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. A photography gift certificate is a perfect and significant gift for baby showers or 1st birthdays, and great value especially if a few friends, family or colleagues contribute. The beautifully printed and carefully packaged gift certificate can be posted to you, or directly to the recipient. Payment can be made via bank deposit or PayPal – please contact me for a payment link.
